(Update: Since 2020, despite being headquartered in Illinois, Argo Tea no longer has any locations in downtown Chicago. Sad.)
As I discovered on my recent trip to Chicago, it can be hard finding a good breakfast in The Loop. And, with all the traveling I’ve been doing, I’m kind of burnt out on Starbucks.
So, walking around the area, I found an Argo Tea location. I rather like the concept, since good tea really is better than good coffee, IMHO, and I rather like the fact that a company is really trying to get out there with more tea-shop offerings.
The tea was pretty good, I opted for a nice soy milk mate latte and a nice chocolate croissant (at right). Argo tea will probably never really compete with some of the other places I like for tea (Burlington’s Dobra Tea, for example), it’s just not in the same class. But as a chain of places where one can duck in and get a nice quick tea-based beverage, it’s not bad.

I spent a few days in Chicago recently and tried a few of Argo’s teas (and got a bag of another to take home). Excellent tea in my opinion, but it’s too bad that they don’t offer the chance to re-brew it.
I’ve never been to the Dobra in Vermont, but the one in Madison is very nice. It definitely beats Argo Tea for atmosphere and as a place to sit down and enjoy yourself.
